into the spider-verse has some of the most dynamic, fluid, colorful, beautiful, and expressive animation i’ve seen in years
dreamworks and disney and etc etc have all been fighting each other to see who can animate the most eyelashes and make fabric swish right in the wind
animation has just become a contest to see who can mimic real life (which kind of defeats the purpose lol)
FINALLY an animated film that celebrates its medium!! animation was meant to push the boundaries and express ideas and add visuals real life couldn’t! thank you!!
The more I think about it the more I’m very upset that they infantilized Ralph’s emotional awareness in Wreck It Ralph 2.
Ralph was fully capable of doing things that hurt him emotionally that he thought helped Vanellope (destroying the car). It was a defining and heartbreaking moment in the first movie and, arguably, Ralph’s first step to accepting his place as someone who has to do bad things to make sure everything turns out okay.
And while I can accept an emotionally clingy Ralph, I just don’t buy that he’d actively try to ruin Vanellope’s happiness for the sake of his own.
The movie was about Vanellope. Why not make her learn some sort of lesson about responsibility? Vanellope was supposed to be the leader in Sugar Rush. Yet somehow the game goes on without her in the end? Every day is the same in her life and she’s struggling with finding something to get out of that, and the result is that she goes and runs away into an internet game where things are new and different every day. That not only goes AGAINST the messages in the first movie, it also goes against the rules laid down in that world.
One of the most challenging things I’ve had to learn is that healing must be intentional. There is no one golden day that comes and saves you from all your misery. Healing is a practice. You have to decide that it’s what you want to do and actively do it. You have to make a habit out of it. Once I learned that, I only looked back to see how far I came.
